The school is an 11 to 16 school with upwards of 500 pupils on roll, big enough to offer a diverse curriculum, but small enough for staff to know all their pupils well and to take great care of them.
Set in Cherry Willingham village, a pleasant and quiet semi-rural area, the school serves principally Cherry Willingham and its neighbours Reepham, Fiskerton and Nettleham, although many pupils come from other villages and the city of Lincoln itself. The school has a distant view, across its playing fields, of Lincoln Cathedral, the focal point of the city which is developing rapidly, with its young University acting as catalyst for growth.
Pupils move on for sixth form studies in other schools in the locality and to Lincoln College.
The school became a Foundation School in April 2008 but has retained its “Community School” title because of its nature and its close relationship with the local community.
In 2003 it became a Specialist Sports College, and was in 2007 rated as a High Performing Specialist School. This led to its acquiring its second specialism of Mathematics and Computing in 2008.
In 2007 it was a founder member of the Lincoln Specialist Schools Group, a collaboration of seven schools committed to working together and sharing resources for mutual benefit.
The school have an active “Aspirations” programme (see website for more information) and has also started to implement the SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) programme (see website for more information).
As would be expected, the school is particularly well equipped for its specialisms with a state of the art Sports Hall, Dance Studio, Fitness Suite, Sports Science Room and its heavy investment in ICT equipment.
The school offers an excellent all-round education to pupils of all abilities, has a superb “value added” record. The school has always been consistently rated as “good” across the board in its OFSTED inspections.
